Steps Involved In Changing A Microscope Light Bulb

The term microscope can be divided as “micro” which means small and “scope” to view. This device is used to view minute creatures, which are not visible to the naked eye. Anton Van Leeuwenhoek , in 1674, used a simple, single lens microscope to view these organisms. With the discovery of compound microscopes, the diversity of microorganisms became apparent. There are two types of microscopes- the light or optical microscope and the electron microscope. In a light microscope, light waves are used as source of light to view the specimen, while electrons provide the light in an electron microscope. The microscope light bulb that is used to provide the light can dim out or wear out fast. If this is the case, you need to attend to its change immediately. There are many companies available online, who manufacture these bulbs. Changing a light bulb is not a long process.

Steps for Changing

Step One

The light bulb has to be carefully removed from the microscope. You can read the manual to carry out this process. You may require a screwdriver to undo the bulb cover

Step Two

Keep the light bulb in a safe place. You should not throw your old bulb away immediately. It is better to retain it and compare it with the new bulb. This will tell you if it has the same features and if the new bulb is a reliable piece.

Step Three

You can check out the bulbs on the web. You can first browse the microscope bulb website. Write down the make and model of your microscope. This is helpful in choosing your light bulb. You need to know if you require an incandescent or frosted bulb. You will also have to know the wattage required for your device. Higher the wattage, it can burn out the piece and sometimes even your device. Check with the company, call them up, and talk to their representative about your requirement. They can then verify your choice made. If you have questions, ask them right away, as this should not cause any damage to your instrument. Once you are satisfied with your choice, you can purchase the light bulb online. Always check the warranty of the product as well. You can then speak to them on those terms if a problem arises.

Step four

Read the instructions carefully before inserting the new bulb into the microscope. You would not want to cause any damage to the piece or to the device. It may sound like a very small job, but it could cost you heavily if you are not careful and wise. Reverse the procedure you used to remove the old bulb from the device. As you have your old bulb with you, compare it and see if it is the same. Switch on and see if your new bulb functions properly. If it does, you can be proud of your actions and be well assured that it is a genuine product.

A microscope is an important and expensive tool and should be handled with care. Care should be exercised while handling and transporting the device, in order to prevent any damage. Your Microscope light bulb can be an expensive piece to replace. If your microscope is not in use, ensure that the light is switched off. After every use, ensure that the device is cleaned up as per the instructions given in the manual.
